Brown Convention Center opened on the east side of downtown Houston on September 26, 1987. The building was named after the engineer, civic leader, philanthropist George Rufus Brown (1898-1983), who donated six of the 11 blocks needed to build the building.

In July 2001, the convention center was expanded and an adjacent 1,200-room hotel was built. Also after 27 months of construction, the GRB grew from 1.15 million square feet to 1.8 million square feet. Three exhibition halls and more meeting rooms were added due to growing demand. Finally the expansion was completed on December 3, 2003.

The George R. Brown Convention Center offers:

  • A grandstand theater with capacity for 3600 people: the General Assembly theater .
  • A space of almost 185,000 square feet suitable as a room for all kinds of meetings.
  • 117 meeting rooms.
  • 4 outdoor balconies with almost 3,000 square feet each, ideal for outdoor festive receptions.
